Mercedes-Benz is preparing a novelty for 2017: an unprecedented medium-sized pickup truck that will be produced in Brazil. In addition to being the first luxury brand to bring a pickup to its portfolio, the launch of this utility vehicle could be another contribution to seeking the first place in the segment of other luxury brands, surpassing Audi and the current leader BMW.

Confidential information indicates that the first sketches of this pickup would have appeared in late 2013. The project was approved a few years ago, but it is unlikely that it will reach dealerships before the end of 2017. The vehicle will be built under a tubular chassis suitable even for off-road use - and developed exclusively for the pickup.

The strategy used in this new model will be the same as in other vehicles of the brand, which have versions for commercial and passenger use. There will be diesel and gasoline engines, with four and six cylinders, and manual and automatic transmissions. Initially, the pickup will be launched with a double cab body, and an option with a single cab is being studied.
